It is a kind of rosewood of Brazilian and Bolivian origin. It has a red to brown color, with lighter reflections. The wood is hard, compact, heavy with straight grain. It is used in the furniture industry as a fine veneer due to its beautiful decorative appearance.

It is also used for billiard cues, chess and musical instruments.
